Spelunking the Solicits for Seven Books You Should Be Reading!

Oh me my meow! Those of us based outside of the Yeti cave have returned for another spectacular month of crawling, diving, and exploring the new comic solicits. Some great debut titles are coming soon to a comic shop or book store near you and we hope we can entice you into pre-ordering these magnificent gems.

I know his name is Steve, but that could easy be Doug.

You see, the reader can pop into any shop and pick up a comic book, no fuss no muss. But for maximum impact of the series health and for the benefit of the creators, pre-ordering the books would be the best. To best help creators, we will bring to you our individual top 5--top 10-- NO, our TOP 7 list of favorite announced books for the month. In hopes you too will join us in pre-ordering from your Local Comic Shop! (LCS)

Things are a little disjointed in comics ordering right now. There are three places one can order from: Lunar, Diamond Preview or Random Penguin. We include the catalog and the order codes to help you out. If any of these catches your fancy take the codes to your LCS and they will make sure you get set up!

   1. David Marquez (Uncanny X-Men artist) on his debut comics as writer and artist. Mysterious Powers, 13 year old girl who is responsible and the mystery surrounding her.-Luis

1. Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes,& Rivals #1 (Marvel) Order Code: MAY250333

   1. Its been 30 years since the last issue, that’s right 1995. (withers away to dust). I’m excited to see what amazing art will be included in this.

      

      
      

2. Masterminds #1 (Dark Horse) Order Code: MAY250872

   1. Based on the description it sounds like a video game version of the SAW movies but instead of it being a punishment its an audition for the participants.

      

3. Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone One-Shot (IDW) Order Code: MAY250925

   1. From the writers of Kill Your Darlings, come a story set in the new KAI-SEI ERA of IDWs Godzilla. I’ve got to check this one out. Half-Man/Half-Kaiju sounds interesting.

      

      
      

4. Speed Racer #1 (Mad Cave Studios) Order Code 0525MA577

   1. I’m a fan of Speed Racer (I have the Mach 5 and Shooting Star tattooed on my arm) so of course I’m getting this.

      

5. Space Ghost #1 (Dynamite) Order Code MAY250032

   1. Pepose and Lau have done great things with Space Ghost. I’m glad to see the series continuing and relaunching with the same team.

      

6. Mega Man Zero Timelines #1 (UDON) Order Code MAY251763

   1. July is just coming up Luis. I’m been a big fan of the Mega Man franchise these series of one-shots are just perfect for me.

      

7. Maui Mighty Comics #1 (Gemstone Publishing) Order Code MAY251398

   1. A comic benefiting the Maui Fire relief which definitely needs some more attention.

1. The Knives: A Criminal Book Graphic Novel (Image) CODE: 0525IM280

   a. The Criminal series is one of my all time favorites. I am excited to get the new series all in one go in this nifty graphic novel! Sign me up for all the Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips they can handle.

   

2. The Sixth Gun: Battle for The Six #1 (Oni) CODE: MAY251542

   a. After 15 years The Sixth Gun series returns. I am excited to see what the jump forward in time will mean for the titular weapons and what kind of chaos there will be to obtain them once again.

   

3. Kid Flash: Going Rogue Graphic Novel (DC) CODE: 0525DC243

   a. My kids have been loving the YA titles that DC had been putting out. I am very excited to introduce them to Kid Flash, as I am a big fan of the teen sidekicks.

   

4. Gotham City Sirens: Unfit for Orbit #1 (DC) CODE: 0525DC012

   a. I recently have been catching up on the DC All In initiative. I found Bird's of Prey to be one of the top books in the pile. I am hoping DC can hit that same high quality here with Gotham City Sirens.

   

5. Masks Graphic Novel (Andrews McMeel) CODE: MAY251043

   a. Kids finding a place to be themselves was what I took away from the pitch for the story. Add on top of the intriguing premise of monsters finding out about Halloween for the first time with the incredible art that Beck Kubrick and I know this will be a recipe for something that might end up on year end lists.

   

6. Heaven West Virginia Graphic Novel (Oni) CODE: MAY251575

   a. Moving to a place called Heaven and then finding a creature stalking the woods that no one else can see is an intriguing start to a surefire great comic. Can't wait to get this one in hand.

   

7. Cocaine Coast Graphic Novel(Ablaze) CODE: MAY250725

   a. I am a sucker for stuff like Don Winslow books like Power of the Dog and this based on a true story seems right up my alley.
