Writer: Doug WoodDoug Wood

Spelunking the Solicits for Seven Books You Should Be Reading!

Well well well, what do we have here? A new Comic Book Yeti feature article? Why yes! (If approved by the Comic Yeti Board of Approval Approving) After much discussion, us huddling outside of the Yeti cave, have decided the readers and comic creators could really use a breakdown of comics as they are announced. What makes this different from the typical news release breakdowns, you may ask??? Well... Luis Godoy and Doug Wood plan to venture the depths of the comics solicits to let you know the gems that are nestled deep deep in the cavernous underbelly of the comics catalog.

Just three dudes--err, comics readers, chillin' in the caves lookin' for da gems.
Just three dudes--err, comics readers, chillin' in the caves lookin' for da gems.

You see, the reader can pop into any shop and pick up a comic book, no fuss no muss. But for maximum impact of the series health and for the benefit of the creators, pre-ordering the books would be the best. To best help creators, we will bring to you our individual top 5--top 10-- NO, our TOP 7 list of favorite announced books for the month. In hopes you too will join us in pre-ordering from your Local Comic Shop! (LCS)

Things are a little disjointed in comics ordering right now. There are three places one can order from: Lunar, Diamond Preview or Random Penguin. We include the catalog and the order codes to help you out. If any of these catches your fancy take the codes to your LCS and they will make sure you get set up!

LUIS TOP 7 PICKS

Here are seven books that should be on your radar with June Release dates

The New Books

  1. Lazarus: Fallen #1  Lunar Code: 0325IM428

    1. Rucka and Lark returning to their series and what looks to be their last story in that universe

  2. Biker Mice From Mars #1 (Oni Press) Previews Code: APR251545

    1. I remember loving this cartoon in the 90s, and that makes me want to check this out.

  3. DarkStalkers X Street Fighters (Udon Entertainment) Previews Code: APR251740

    1. Fans of the video games should have lots of fun with this one.

  4. VR Troopers #1 (Boom)  Previews Code: APR250955

    1. If Boom is able to capture the feel of these shows and make it relevant to today like they did with Power Rangers, they’re going to have a hit.

  5. New History of the DCU #1(DC) Lunar Code: 0425DC101

    1. Mark Waid, Jerry Orway, Todd Nauck what is not to love and you know they all know their stuff in DC.

  6. Runaways #1 (Marvel)  Previews Code: APR250400

    1. Rainbow Rowell and Elena Casagrande are a great pair on this title.

  7. Mega Man X Timelines #1 (Udon) Previews Code: APR251732

    1. I’m a big fan of the Mega Man video games and have watched several hours of the history of the Mega Man timelines by youtuber The Black Mastadonte. He does a really good job covering every Mega Man related title across several hours.

Little Baby Doug's List

Did you know they still make monthly comics? I want to buy some. You should check these out too! (PS Luis totally sniped VR TROOPERS from me. I am THE Toku fan here, you hear me Luis? I will get my revenge or something...)

  1. News From The Fallout #1 (Image) Lunar Code: 0425IM295

    a. No joke, I was in my LCS literally yesterday (at time of writing) when a woman came in asking for Fallout comics or something in the vein of Fallout. What fortuitous timing this book was announced the next day. I know I want it too. Chris Condron and Jeffrey Allen Love are delving into the horrors of the atomic.

  2. White House Robot Romance #1 (DSTLRY) Preview Code: APR250869

    a. Just as I was putting together my list the Uncanny Yeti (not to be confused with Yeti Classic) slid this bit of comic book goodness across my desk. Chip Zdarsky, Rachel Stott and Tamra Bonvillain whip up a deliciously delicate romance plot with a dash of political intrigue. I cannot wait to learn about these characters and the potential war they may cause.

  3. Model Five Murder Trade Paperback (Silver Sprocket) Lunar Code: 0425SP656

    a. This solicit really snuck up on me. A story of a detective being murdered and an android that discovers the body, only to realize the detective looks shockingly alike the android. From comic publisher Silver Sprocket, I know I am in for some quality comics. Cannot wait to give this a try!

  4. Plague House #3 (Oni Press) Preview Code: APR251577

    a. Creators Michael W. Conrad and Dave Chisholm together on a comic? Umm yes please? A story of ghost hunters investigating a site of a brutal homicide and there may be more things haunted than the house.

  5. Slasher’s Apprentice #2 (Mad Cave) Lunar Code: 0425MA566

    a. One of my favorite comics at the start of this decade was Finger Guns by Justin Richards and Val Halvorson. They are teaming up once again and I for one could not be more excited. They are telling a story of a podcast obsessed horror fan looking to help her favorite villain out. Chilly times are upon us.

  6. Blue Palo Verde #1 (Mad Cave) Lunar Code: 0425MA536

    a. Always exciting when a cover and a logline can hook you deep. Ray Fawkes and Rimanti Nurdarina have done just that here. “What if people truly figured out how to bring paradise to Earth, and you were the one destined to destroy it?” I cannot wait to be spooked reading this eerie comic.

  7. Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman (DC) Lunar Code: 0425DC042

    a. ‘Aye aye aye… Doug?’ you may say, ‘ why Trinity out of all the DC comics?’ Well dear reader, my daughter recently introduced me to the world of Wonder Robin and my life has never been the same. Now I must insist you too must change your life by getting this book! Trinity (fka Wonder Robin), you see, is the future daughter of Wonder Woman. Her babysitters were Damian and Jon (Robin and Superboy) and due to time travel shenanigans they have both been turned into corgis. They join her as she continues to travel in time to discover the identity of her father. Comic will be written by Tom King and drawn by Balen Ortega.
