WHAT IS IT?
A Neil Gaiman short story adapted for comics.
Two teenage boys go to a party. Things get weird.
This one’s kind of hard to place. Maybe Can’t Hardly Wait meets Weird Science?
WHAT'S IT ABOUT? (Minor Spoilers)
A couple guys in their mid-teens go to a party, looking for a girl they know. One of the guys, our protagonist, is very shy. His friend, who is more charismatic, wants to get him to talk to some of the girls at the party.
You know. Like normal high school boys at normal high school parties.
The girls at the party are acting a little weird, though. Whether that’s because of our protagonist’s awkwardness, or her specific personality, or some other reason is uncertain. But this is a short story, so I don’t want to say much more out of fear of spoiling it.
WHAT WORKS?
It was such a good story, it’s being released TODAY as a major motion picture!
The creative team does a spectacular job capturing how alien girls seem to teenage boys
Moon & Bá adapted this story from one of Neil Gaiman’s books of short stories, did the art AND lettered it, which is highly praiseworthy
The vibrant watercolor brings an organic feel that really brings life to the story
If you like Neil Gaiman and/or you are or were a teenage guy, you’ll probably enjoy this
It’s a short, self-contained story, so you don’t have to feel like you’re signing up to read a whole series
WHAT DOESN'T WORK?
Some adult themes, so I’d say this works better for mid-teen audiences
It feels very Gaiman, so if you’re decidedly not into his style, this isn’t for you
WHY SHOULD I READ IT?
I loved this, and I think you should read it.
It’s short, and it’s sweet and it’s sinister in a Neil Gaiman sort of way. If that's your jam, this will be, too.
